AR@Ceramic and Glass Academy: Tecnologias imersivas aplicadas à formação
14 March, 2025

The CCG/ZGDV Institute is participating in the development of a digital academy, the AR@Ceramic and Glass Academy, which will be accessible to the entire ceramics and glass sector, with the potential for expansion to other industrial sectors. This initiative introduces a new training approach based on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, which recreate various production processes within a factory environment by practically simulating different tasks for training and problem-solving.

The Ecoceramic and Glassmaking Agenda of Portugal (ECP) aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the ceramic and glassmaking industries at a national level. One initiative is the creation of a digital academy, the AR@Ceramic and Glass Academy, to train its assets.

CCG/ZGDV is developing technology that aids professional training by recreating factory, laboratory, and warehouse environments. The system enables the simulation of real scenarios with holographic and three-dimensional elements. It is designed for both trainers, who can create personalized scenarios, and trainees, who can interact and execute simulations in an interactive, animated, and immersive way.

The first prototype developed corresponds to a virtual demonstration of processes, where scenarios can be built with 3D models, augmented reality markers (QR Codes, photographs, logos, etc.) can be defined as references in specific spaces, interactions between the user and the respective models and outputs can be defined, and user behaviours and performance can be recorded. The prototype also includes a holographic component for inspecting certain processes.

The AR@Ceramic and Glass Academy represents a significant step forward in industrial training. A partnership between CCG/ZGDV and CTCV - Ceramic and Glass Technology Center, in the area of training, where problem-solving, generating new ideas, analyzing and interpreting data and making more informed and effective decisions shape the future of this and other sectors of activity.
