CCG/ZGDV welcomes Amparo Alonso for an inspiring talk on Frugal AI
21 March, 2025

On 19 March, CCG/ZGDV welcomed the esteemed professor Amparo Alonso for a talk on Frugal AI, held in the CCG/ZGDV auditorium.

More sustainable Artificial Intelligence has emerged as a promising alternative with a smaller carbon footprint, reduced model sizes, lower computational complexity, and greater transparency. Various strategies can help achieve these goals, such as improving data quality, developing more energy-efficient execution models, and optimising energy efficiency in model training and inference.

In this context, Amparo Alonso, Full Professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of A Coruña (UDC), highlighted the importance of reducing the carbon footprint, lowering computational complexity, and improving transparency in AI models. She presented various strategies to achieve these objectives, including improving data quality, developing more energy-efficient execution models, and optimising energy consumption in the training and inference processes.

With an impressive career, Amparo Alonso is a Full Professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of A Coruña (UDC), where she leads the LIDIA group (Artificial Intelligence R&D Laboratory). She has published over 200 articles in international journals and conferences and has participated in more than 30 competitive research projects. Alonso is a global reference in scalable AI, explainable and reliable AI, and green AI.

The event brought together researchers, professionals, and AI enthusiasts to explore the impact and potential of Frugal AI in developing more efficient and sustainable models. This event reinforces CCG/ZGDV's commitment to driving progress in digital and computational technologies, contributing to a more competitive and sustainable economy.
